It's been awhile since I've written up a restaurant review. To be honest, we've only eaten at a few new places lately. I'll start with the one we ate lunch at today since it is fresh in my mind. When I get time, I'll go back and try and write a bit about the other 2 places that stick out in my mind.
The place we ate at today was simply called "Korean BBQ." It was located just off of Steven's Creek/San Carlos a block or two east of Bascom. Upon entering we were greeted by the waitress who informed us of the pricing scheme. It was $6.99 for just the hot food, and $10.99 for the whole buffet. We went with the whole buffet this time.
The Buffet was a long buffet table that ran the length of the restaurant. One half of it had a selection of raw meats that you cooked at your table, much like at the Palace BBQ Buffet we've eaten at before. The other half was filled with pre-cooked items like wings, potstickers, etc. The grill at the table had a wire mesh that you cooked on over a gas burner with rocks that looked a bit like charcoal briquettes. The meats were very good, but the taste fell a bit short of what I have come to expect when going to the Palace BBQ Buffet.
The food on the pre-cooked portion of the buffet was mostly cold. My wife put a big spoonful of corn into her mouth and promptly spit it out when she found out how cold it was. The wings and potstickers I took from that portion of the buffet were also pretty cold, like they had been sitting on the buffet table for awhile. Keep in mind that we were there around 11:30am. Maybe they make sure they have fresh food closer to 12, but I didn't go back up to find out.
Another big drawback is that their pop was served in cans with a glass of ice. I'm the type of person that usually drinks a lot of liquids with my meals, and one 12oz can of pop just isn't usually enough for me. I much prefer places that have fountain pop and free refills.
The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was rather drab. Not much had been done to decorate the place. The tables were rows of counters with 2-3 grills along the length, so I would suspect if they ever got busy, it wouldn't make for the most private of atmospheres. While we were there, it didn't seem like they had much of a problem with a lunchtime rush, however.
Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wouldn't be my first choice of a place to go back to. If you do go to try it yourself, save yourself some money and only get the raw meat section of the buffet.
