A few weeks ago, when I got my paycheck I noticed that I was nearing the maximum vacation accrual amount of 240 hours. Since I don't want to lose any vacation time I could accrue, I decided to take this week off.
It seemed like a good time to take vacation for a few reasons. First, I got the last few items of my NES work signed off, ending my work with the Fargo team once again. When I get back from vacation, I can once again focus on the LNS work. Seeing as part of the reason I moved to CA was to work on something I found more interesting than NES, this is a good thing for me. Not to sound too harsh, but the NES stuff bored me to tears. The designs and code were mostly copy/paste with little real thought involved. The most time consuming part of the whole thing was coming up with names that satisfy everyone, arranging meetings, and getting everyone to sign off on stuff. The naming thing is probably what annoyed me most. Everyone seems anal about getting names to be "consistent," while ignoring the fact that they have a huge inconsistency in naming commands with Read/Set. It should be Read/Write, or Get/Set, dammit!!! Anyway, enough of that...
Another good reason to take vacation this week is because it was Valentine's Day on Tues, and Mon. of next week is President's day, which we get as a paid holiday; extending my time off by an extra day.
On Monday we went up to go hiking at Big Basin. When we got there we saw some trailers and signs up saying, "No Film Crew Parking." Evidently, they are filming some movie there. The ranger we talked to said it was some slasher movie. After doing some research, my guess is that it is for a movie directed by David Arquette called, "The Tripper." I'm not positive that is the movie, but I found an article in the Santa Clara Sentinel website saying that on Jan 23 they were having a casting call for that movie in Santa Cruz and Boulder Creek. Boulder Creek is right by Big Basin so it seems a bit coincidental if it wasn't for the same movie. We didn't see any actors or anything, just some of the crew setting up lighting and props. It might have been cool if we were there to see some of the filming, though.
We went on about a 5 mile hike while while there. I got some decent pictures, but nothing too spectacular. I think my favorite was of this red mushroom.

Tues and Wed. we just sort of hung out around home. My legs were still sore today when I woke up, so we have just been lazy. We were going to go golfing, but the weather forcast doesn't sound very good for the rest of the week. The high is only supposed to be around 54 tomorrow, which is great by Fargo standards in Feb, but might make golfing a bit less enjoyable. It is also supposed to rain most of the weekend; killing any plans we had of fishing or driving along the coast for me to take some more photos.
Next week, the PvP servers for EQ2 go live. I've been looking forward to that for awhile. I joined up with a guild on the Freeport side already. I'm looking forward to getting a character up in levels more with a good guild to go on raids with. It should be fun. Can't wait. Amazingly enough, I talked Val into creating a character on the test server with me, so we've been playing that some. I think she's enjoying it.
