I had seen Panorama a few times along Bascom when taking a detour home from work. What attracted me to it was the fact the soaped windows advertising "$6.99 New York Steak" and "Now serving Chinsese food." Since my wife loves steak, and she loves Chinese food, I figured it'd be worth it to stop in for lunch one day.
The place had a bit of a truck stop style atmosphere to it; from the large booths to the uniform worn by the obviously over-worked waitress. We sat down in one of the large oval shaped booths and looked at the menu. Since we were there for lunch, I paid most attention to the lunch menu, but I did browse over the dinner menu a bit. I looked at the menu for some evidence of Chinese food, but if it was there, it was hidden among all the other meals. I decided to order a New York steak sandwich, which I noted was $6.99. Evidently this was the $6.99 New York steak that was advertised in the window. My wife ordered a Philly steak sandwich.
The steak sandwich was pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. It was basically a slab of steak on a bun with some condiments added. There were some fatty parts of the steak that I ate around, but otherwise it was a decent sandwich. I don't think my wife was very pleased with her Philly steak, though.
The restaurant wasn't very busy, with maybe 4-5 tables including ours, but there appeared to be only 1 waitress on staff that was running around filling orders, etc. When we were done with our meal we got tired of waiting for our bill so we went up to get it and pay. Even then we had to wait as she brought food out to people.
After finally getting our bill, I left a bit more than my usual 10% tip simply because I felt sorry for the waitress, but I don't think we will be going back to this place anytime soon. The food was ok, but nothing that would make me want to come back.
